Two Wonderful Days with Clients and a Day of Days with Smallmouth

Last Thursday and Friday couldn't have been nicer days on the water. I had a father and son the first day who were nothing less that a joy to fish with, the Tully was a happy creek that day too. Friday I had two brothers meet in the middle from Philly and DC. We fished the spring creeks in the morning, and the breeches in the afternoon. Fishing was tough on the spring creeks but we had some amazing fish grace us with a smile. Caddis, Caddis, Caddis thats pretty much all we saw both days and the fish were ok with that. We got fish on top both places, however nymphing was still the main producer.

The third day found Andy and I floating a tributary to the Juniata, one of our favorite little creeks to float. Spring is a great time to target smallmouth as they migrate to their spawning grounds. We floated and fished only 2 flies, Roamers and Cohen's Man Bear Pig. We casted at the bank, waited for an olive flash, and set the hook. There was some time between action, but it was a day on the creek we will never forget. This is a trip we just started to offer this year, and it is nothing but amazing.

Beast of the East 2016

It was yet another adventure out in Warren PA fishing for musky with the crew. However this time we prevailed, between the two boats we moved 9 fish in two days. We had the same crew as last year, but this year we came to play. We were about 3/4 of the way through day one, Austen had a fish on first thing and lost it, I had 2 eats but couldn't connect. Corey was in the back of the boat throwing my rod with a Black/Red/Orange Triple Roamer and a fast sinking line, when I just heard "got one". I love hearing him say that, because I knew it was a musky and it was a good hook set before I even turned around. That was the only fish we landed but it was good enough to put us in 3rd place overall and 2nd largest fish of the tournament.

Andy and I had decided we would float for two days this past weekend. One day would be on a smaller trib to the Juniata River, the other the Juniata River itself. It was a great day on the trib, but with over an inch of rain Sunday night, our dreams of crushing some large smallies on Monday had been shattered. Never the less we stopped and grabbed some small town cooking for breakfast, put the boat in and chucked streamers most of the day. The water continued to rise and get muddier as the day went on. No hook ups except for a large carp that I stuck in the dorsal fin. The smallies were very aggressive on Sunday so that made up for the lack of fish on Monday. We started off prospecting with crayfish and hellgrammite flies, but quickly changed to an all white Roamer fly pattern. We hit the banks and stripped back, the smallies were blowing up right off the banks, super awesome. Thanks Andy for showing me around, yet again :)
