Featured Fly - Taramite 3.0

I know that its not bass season anymore, or at least its not prime bass season, and everyone is thinking about steelhead and big lake run brown trout. So I'm sure you are wondering why I'm posting a video on another variation of my hellgrammite pattern. Well I recorded this video in the heat of smallmouth season but, just got a computer that could handle the editing process. So here you go. Keep this one in your favorites menu and pull it back up in the summer. Hope to have any more to come.

Honeymoon Fishing - Part Three

Day three was a solo trip without my wife. The weather sucked and the tide was high, but we still tried. We came up empty handed, but I did get a couple shots at some black tip reef sharks on the flats. Here are a few pictures from the rainy day.

Fingerlings are Free

We floated down the river this past Monday and released 3000 fingerling Rainbows. These Rainbows are from a warm water strain of fish that can stay active up to 75 degrees, so lets see what happens.

Featured Fly - Double Squirrel Nymph

I will start this feature fly off by apologizing for not doing one for a long time. I was camera and computer less for a while, but I'm back up and running. This is a very basic nymph, but it has been working well for me. Tied from size 16 up to size 10, it works well for an anchor fly or just a general attractor.

Materials:
Hook: Orvis Tactical Hook - Wide Gape - 16-10
Bead: Tungsten Bomb Bead - Copper or Black
Thread:  Ultra Thread 170 - Fl. Orange
Rib: Mirage Tinsel - Opal - Sm. or Med.
Tail: CDL Fibers - Dark
Body: SLF Squirrel Dub - Fox Squirrel
Collar: SLF Squirrel Dub - Drk. Brown

Step 1: Slide the proper sized bead on the hook.
Step 2: Make a solid thread base, tying in your ribbing as you move towards the hook bend.
Step 3: Tie in your CDL tail, making a few extra wraps of thread to form a Hot Butt.
Step 4: Making tight wraps, dub the body, leaving a small space open behind the bead.
Step 5: Taking the ribbing under the tail towards the backside of the fly, make your forward ribs.
Step 6: Dub the collar with Drk. Brown squirrel.
Step 7: While doing your whip finish, make a small "hot" collar with the orange thread.
Finished Fly: Double Squirrel Nymph

Honeymoon Fishing - Part Two

The second day of fishing on the honeymoon took place on the flats. Elizabeth caught her first bonefish on the fly, it was awesome to see her do work on the bow. It was also my first time on the flats for bonefish. We had a great time, and even saw a couple permit. Enjoy!

Honeymoon Fishing - Part One

As promised, I will fill you in on each day from our Honeymoon. I have to first Thank my Beautiful wife Elizabeth for putting up with me, and allowing me to fish on the honeymoon. The first set of pictures were all captured by her, from beginning to end. We were headed to a "secret" Beach that everyone seemed to know about via gulf cart. I spent more time looking into the mangroves and water than I did at the road. It paid off, I saw a tarpon and the rest is history!
