While putting up the last post I realized I never put these photos up. These are from a day back in January when Andy and I decided to fish in the snow. There is nothing cooler than stoneflies and snow.

Fishing Report - Boiling Springs

March is almost over and I have only written once this month. Life is a bit crazy with the new shop opening. We are fully stocked and ready for the season, from camping gear to flies. The fishing is really starting to pick up around here, Grannoms and Hendricksons have started coming off in good numbers. The water is still a bit cold, so you won't see much surface activity until later in the day. Start off the morning with nymphs and emergers, then change to dries mid day. Most of the spring creeks are still getting midges and olives, but it won't be long until we see some caddis and then sulphurs. Caddis pupa and hare's ears have been my top two flies so far this season for most of the limestone creeks with sow bugs and caddis pupa on the spring creeks.  Stop in the shop and check it out, grab a few flies and head out to the creek.

New Store Mixed with Some Fishing

I have to say that this hour and fifteen minute drive to and from work doesn't add much to my fishing time. However having so many great systems so close to the shop, I have managed to get out for a hour or so a couple times a week. The new shop is up and running with new product coming in every week. We have been welcomed with open arms by most, and we are very excited to be in this new location.

The fishing is only going to get better from here, the water is coming down all over and starting to really clear up. We are starting to see some little black stones, and on cloudy days some Olives. Nymphing is still the most productive way to fish this time of year, walts worms, zebra midges, caddis larva, and pheasant tails are what most people are using.

The spring creeks are fishing well, not too much surface activity just yet. Fish are eating scuds and sow bugs like its their job.

Post Snowstorm Fishing

My life has been in shambles with the new store opening soon. However there is always time to fish, but with snowmelt chilling off the water it can be a bit tough. From spring creeks to limestone streams they all can be effected by the rapid cooling water, if you stick with it you will be rewarded. Fished with my buddy Andy the other day and it was a rough day, he managed to put a couple in the net, and I lost the only fish I hooked. Stoneflies, cress bugs, midge pupa, caddis larva have all worked for me over the past week on the water.

RT Tube Steak Caddis Larva - Video

This is an awesome caddis larva fly. My buddy Rob Thrash came up with a similar fly, so I commandeered some of his ideas and added them to my blended caddis. The rib is made out of stretch tubbing so it is very durable. Check it out.

Video - DP Midge

Last year I tried to put up 7 post a month, in doing so some of the post were just filler and weren't the quality that I would have liked. This year I am going to try for at least 3 a month and make them  of higher quality. Im sure during the season I will do more with fishing reports, and stream photos. My goal is to give you a Gear Review, Fishing Photos, and a Video each month. I will do my best. Last post was Fishing Photos, and the Gear Review, now the video.

This is a fly that a good friend of mine showed me a long time ago, and it has been my number one midge fly for the past couple years. I did a featured fly on it a while back, and decided that this would be a great on to add to the "silent" film collection. Enjoy
