Stripers (Rock Fish) on the Bay

I received a call from my buddy Mike a couple weeks back, he wanted to go striper fishing last minute. He has a buddy that guides on the Susquehanna flats and he had a last minute cancelation, so he wanted us to come down. That morning they put a solid 40 fish in the boat, all on flies so we were pretty pumped to get out. Unfortunately, it was a flood tide and the water was moving very slow, so we had to work to find some fish. Jeff kept us thinking the next cast was going to be a fish, and we eventually found some willing fish. About a half hour before dark I got crushed by a 40" plus fish and fought it right to the boat, Mike went to lip it and it took one last run under the boat and popped off. We all just about cried, but we went back at it looking for another one. If you ever need a recommendation for a guide on the flats I would Highly recommend giving Jeff Lewatowski a call.

Chesapeake Weekend

Spent the weekend down in MD visiting the family, the good thing is a visit with the family almost always means a fishing trip too. Monday the commercial fishing season was closed,  but dad had to go out and send Spot pots (baitfish) for the next 2 days when the season reopened. In exchange for my help, he said he would drive me around looking for breaking fish... DEAL! Well that was all we did was look, not a single bird or splash for about 2 hours. When we were about 100 yards from the slip I looked up to a happy sight, birds, ducks, and stripers all over the place. We spent the next hour or so fishing clouser minnows and bob's bangers for 12 - 20 Stripers. It was awesome, we caught a bunch, nothing huge but they are such cool looking fish!

Home to the Chesapeake (and a home cooked meal)

I ventured down to Kent Island MD this past weekend to visit my family. It was nice to be home and have a great home cooked meal. Sunday evening we all decided to spend some quality family time together; naturally we decided to head out on the Chesapeake Bay chasing breaking fish before coming in and having Cream of Crab soup for dinner!

I was really hoping that we would be able to get out on the water this weekend, so the first thing loaded into my truck after work was my 8wt and a box of saltwater flies. It was nice to be out on the water with my Dad again, and my whole family for that mater. Running around the bay searching for breaking fish takes me back to the good old days. Here are a few pictures from our evening.

Some days I miss living on the Bay; but it makes it that much more enjoyable when I have the chance to get home.
