Spring Creeks - First Guide Trip

Over the past four years I've spent a lot of time fishing and learning the spring creeks of southwest PA. This past weekend I was finally able to guide my first clients out there. Carl and Jim are long time clients if mine and welcomed the idea. We had a great day in the 60 degree weather, we netted a couple nice fish and had action all day. Black stones, midges, and BWOs were hatching just about all day. The weekend before I took Jack with me and we had a banner day as well. High sun and heavy winds didn't stop us. Fish were eating stones and BWOs all day long.

This isn't going to be a long post. I was flipping through my camera today and realized that I had some photos that never made the blog. The Sculpin Beer goes along with the single little Brown, I spent about three hours on the stream for that little guy. So why not go to the bar and discover they had your favorite beer in the cooler? The rest are all from Big Spring.

Big Spring - One More Trip

Sunday was the last day of fishing for me, before the Fly Fishing Show in Somerset. Jack and I decided to head back to Big Spring to chase the big ones again. This time we took a buddy along with us, Rob is an old client turned friend, who has always wanted to fish the spring creeks around Harrisburg. So the call went out and he was in the truck with us, headed down at 6:30 Sunday morning. It was much colder this weekend, for the first couple hours we battled frozen fingers and iced up guides. But, all this was forgotten when Rob caught a sweet brook trout, Jack landed a fat rainbow, and I had a sick brook crush a streamer. Then if that wasn't good enough, fish started rising to Midges and Olives, Dry Fly fishing in January? YUP we will also take that!!!!

A Couple Good Days

This weekend was a great time to be out on the water. The storms that were supposed to show up, never did, so the fishing never slowed. Sunday, Steve, Elizabeth and I fished the Tully, caddis were coming off, but fish seemed to be eating better underneath. Caddis Larva, Pt's, Split Backs, and Migdes, all did the trick. So then this morning, I decided to rig the 3wt up and head out for some wild browns. Sulphurs and Frenies did the trick. It was a nice morning out on the creek.
