What a Week!

I was on the water 5 out of the last 7 days from the Little J to the Tully, we even spent a day fishing out of the boat. The fishing has continued to be fantastic. Sulphurs are around but all the fish still seem to be keying in on caddis. They are taking the pupas all day long, and when the opportunity to eat an adult floats by they take that as well. The water is at a perfect level just about everywhere but with all the rain look for the Tully to go up soon. If you are in the state college area, the Sulphurs are still coming off strong and there have been sightings of Drakes on many different creeks. The stoneflies are starting to crawl towards the banks, sot they won't be long either.

Fishing Around Town

Its been about a month now since I have posted some fish pictures, so here you go. I've been busy getting things in order with the new store, but there is always time to fish. The spring creeks are starting to fish well with all the grasses starting to slowly die off. The Tully is starting to pick back up now the the water temps are stable and the leaves are all gone. It should be no surprise that midges have been the key in fly choice on the Tully. The spring creeks have had some great olive hatches when the conditions are right, and the sow bugs have been fooling a couple big fish.

Fingerlings are Free

We floated down the river this past Monday and released 3000 fingerling Rainbows. These Rainbows are from a warm water strain of fish that can stay active up to 75 degrees, so lets see what happens.

Please join us on Saturday, October 11th at our Reading location for this super cool event! This is the 2nd year of the "Drinks for Dinks" program in which we raise money to continue the stocking and re population of the Tulpehocken Creek (Tully) with fingerling trout. These 4" trout are float stocked in the Fall of the year and will grow to almost 8" by early Spring. We have already landed some of these fish from last year in the 12" range! This fingerling program is important to the Tully as these fish thrive in this environment and become "almost wild" in both appearance and behavior.
By attending this event you will show your dedication and support for the Tully and the effort put forth to maintain this incredible fishery. Prizes, Raffles, Great Beer and food are all part of this fun day. The proceeds from many items sold as well as the raffle fun all goes to stocking these fish.
*This year our local Trout Unlimited Chapter has agreed to partner with us and match the funds raised to DOUBLE our yearly stocking!! This means we will stock about 3,000 fish this year... maybe more if YOU come support this cause!

You are allowed 10 mins to search through the random materials on the table and tie a fly. The winner will be announced right before the movie, Winner will be picked by popular demand.

  Chip has been in the TCO Family for many years now... his flies are simply AMAZING! Don't miss this one.
  
• Fly Tying Demos – 10am - 5pm - All Day – David Troop – Musky Madness David Troop is a local musky addict who also ties flies for the shop. He will be tying his favorite musky flies.

Before the Rain

This week was on fire, if you had anything that looked like a caddis on, the fish were eating it. Splashy rises from trout chasing caddis pupa to the surface could be found all over the Tully. There are lots of bugs flying around, and until this last bump of water, it was shaping up to be an awesome weekend. Reports of Sulphurs on the lower end of the river are starting to spread, and I saw two at Reber's Bridge on Wednesday. Water is over 1000 cfs right now, with another inch or so of rain on the way, I'm thinking it will be a great weekend to tie flies. Look for a new Featured Fly tonight or tomorrow, for now enjoy some photos from my last three trips out.

Also, we are seeing signs of a positive fingerling stocking, just shy of ten where caught this week!
